Three Coats!

This time we are doing things a little differently. Over the last little while we've had a number of businesses send us coats for Nico to try, so what we've decided to do is a comparative review.

We will review and compare three different coats,
RoryGear, Designer Doggie Wear, and the Wraprascal.

RoryGear
RainGear

RoryGear -- picture onePieces: a snood to protect the ears and neck, a jacket to keep the body dry, leg covers to keep water off the legs, and a matching bag to keep them all in.

Fabric: made from a water repellent material that is easy to wash, and looks great too.

Cuteness Factor: very very high. Nico looks too cute for words in his RainGear. We get all sorts of comments when he's out wearing his RoryGear.

RoryGear -- picture twoUnique Features: the snood and jacket are completely reversible to provide two different looks. The little heart on the side (done in a contrasting colour) is also very sweet.

Wearability: the RoryGear wears very well, and is easy to put on. Nico hates the leg guards though, so he usually just goes out with the snood and jacket -- which still provides him with lots of rain protection. He wears this outfit often.

Value: RoryGear sets are a little more expensive than a jacket on it's own, but are well made and very much worth the cost.

Overall Impression: Nico absolutely loves his RoryGear, and so do I. He looks adorable, stays dry, and gets a ton of use out of his RainGear. This is one product that gets two paws up... definitely Nico approved.

Designer Doggie Wear
Winter Jacket

Designer Doggie Wear -- picture onePieces: this is an all in one jacket, no extra pieces to worry about losing.

Fabric: two thick layers of warm and cozy fabric designed to keep heat in and cold out. Also very comfortable, flexible, and easy to wash.

Cuteness Factor: Nico worries that he looks sissy in the red and black scotty dog print, but I have assured him that's not the case. We all think he looks very cute in his designer coat. The rickrack trim is just adorable, a jacket like this would look ultra cute with a lace trim on a little girl.

Designer Doggie Wear -- picture twoUnique Features: the clasps on this jacket are nice and big, making it very easy to put on and take off, and each jacket is especially designed with your little one in mind. Each one of these jackets is very unique and is a one of a kind creation.

Wearability: this is the jacket Nico wears the most often right now. The weather is cooling off and there's snow on the ground. This jacket is warm and durable and should last throughout the winter.

Value: considering that each jacket is a hand made original the price is quite reasonable. They are well made, and should last your little one for years. They are well worth the price.

Overall Impression: Designer Doggie Wear makes a nice solid jacket that is warm and long lasting. Nico and I both give them a thumbs up... Nico approved.

Wraprascal
Coat and Slicker

Wraprascal -- picture onePieces: this is a two piece set with a jacket and a slicker.

Fabric: The jacket is a factory produced knit and the slicker is a light plastic piece that slips over the jacket when the weather is damp. Both pieces should be hand washed.

Cuteness Factor: Nico looks cute (as always) in this little get up. Wraprascal has some very cute designs that are well worth having a look at. This is one cute and quite unique item.

Wraprascal -- picture twoUnique Features: there is a little pocket on the soft chest piece which would be perfect for carrying a piece of i.d. or a little doggybag for those messes that happen while out walking. The little pocket is really a wonderful idea, and would be a fantastic place to put things like medical information about your dog, or some spare change. Wraprascal disserves kudos for this little brainstorm.

Wearability: unfortunately there is no way to wear this jacket with a harness underneath so it can only be worn around the house. It's very impractical for little dogs because of this, but would be fine for larger breeds where the use of a harness is unnecessary.

Value: this set is also a good value, and is wonderful for those extra special occasions.

Overall Impression: I was very disappointed to find that there was no way to use this coat set with a harness, and try though I might, I couldn't find a way to adapt it for outdoor use. Unfortunately this is a very large flaw for a toy breed dog and because of this the Wraprascal has failed to earn Nico's approval.
